Hi TrueTalks Fam,

We've all had those moments when traffic police have stopped us, it's a mix of dread and frustration. Now, imagine scammers doing the same trick online. These fraudsters pretend to be traffic cops, tricking people into paying fake fines or sharing personal details.

What's the MO?
Scammers impersonate traffic police to steal your money or data. Here’s what they do:

  • They call claiming to be from the Traffic Police, asking to pay fines for violations you never committed.
  • “We caught you on camera!” they say, sharing fake links or footage.
  • “Your vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run!” They demand money to “settle” the case.
  • Messages or emails with malicious links asking you to verify your identity or pay penalties.
  • Offering fake insurance or registration services.

How to Spot the Scam?

Watch out for:

  • Calls pressuring you to pay up immediately.
  • Messages with links claiming to have evidence of violations.
  • Offers for insurance or vehicle services that seem too good to be true.
  • Being transferred to fake “police officers” who demand payment.
  • Protect Yourself

Here’s how you can stay safe:

  • Don’t click on links or download anything suspicious.
  • Use Truecaller to check if a number is shady, checking user reviews can be super helpful.
  • Never share personal info or pay fines without verifying.
  • Double-check with the actual Traffic Police. Call (080-22868550).

Scammers are getting creative, but we can be smarter. Let’s stay alert and spread the word.
