We want to give you a heads-up about a new type of spam making the rounds. Some scammers are trying to misuse our chat platform by sending messages that look like they’re from verified businesses. While these fake messages might seem convincing at first glance, they’re not too hard to spot if you know what to look for. So, let’s break down how to tell the difference between real verified business messages and these imitations.
 

How to Spot the Fakes?

Scammers often pretend to be banks or other well-known institutions. If you get a message that seems off, take a moment to click on the profile and expand it. Here’s what you should notice:

Fake profiles often display a contact number without a green caller ID or badge, legitimate verified business profiles on the other hand will have a green caller ID and badge that will clearly show they’re an official business, like a bank or another trusted entity.
 

If something seems suspicious, especially if the message claims to be from a bank, here’s what you should do:

1. Click and expand the sender’s profile.
2. Check if there’s a contact number listed.
3. If the number doesn’t have a green badge or caller ID, that’s a red flag—it’s likely not a verified business.
    

By reporting these profiles, you’re helping our system catch more of these spammers and flag their numbers in the app, making Truecaller safer for everyone.
