Have you noticed another name in brackets next to your own name on your Truecaller profile? This happens when there's a big difference between the name you have mentioned on your profile and what other Truecaller users have suggested.

How will you, as a user, benefit from this feature?

This feature helps Truecaller users identify callers even when their displayed name doesn't match exactly what they have set in their profile. It's designed to enhance caller identification accuracy and provide users with more information about incoming calls.

Let’s break it down

If someone suggests a name for you which is very different from the name you've set for yourself on Truecaller, the app might show both names - yours and the one other people have suggested for you.

For example, if you've set your name as "RS" on Truecaller, but someone saved your number as "Riya Sharma" on their phone, you might see your caller ID as "RS (Riya Sharma)" when you call them.

Why is it important to use your real name on your profile?

Truecaller’s main goal is to help its users know who's calling them accurately. Adding an alias, which is a different name, kind of goes against that purpose. We want to show the name that people know you by. That way, they can be sure it's really you who's calling.

Make sure you always use the real name for your profile. That way, you'll have a consistent identity across the app. 

You can change your name within the app itself, by following the steps below:-

On Android:
Step 1: Open the app and tap on the profile icon in the top left corner.
Step 2: Tap 'Edit profile'. (screenshots further below).
Step 3: Set the correct name on Truecaller.
 

On iPhone:
Step 1: Open the app and tap on the profile icon in the top left corner.
